Glossary on Indian Spices

Airwaybill

The carrying agreement between shipper and air carrier which is obtained from the airline used to ship the goods.

Bill of Lading

A document which provides the terms of the contract between the shipper and the transportation company to move freight between stated points at a specified charge

Browser

A software that resides in your computer and acts as an interface between you and a web-site. The browser translates web-pages, written in HTML, into formatted, nice looking text. Common example of browsers are Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera etc.

Cache

An area in your computer's hard disk that is used to temporarily store most frequently requested content of websites. Caching is a technique used by browsers to speed up surfing. If a user requests a particular web page, the browser first checks the 'PC's cache' to see if a copy exists. If the user has visited the page recently - its content will remain in the browser's cache. In that case, the browser delivers the page from cache area of local hard disk rather than download it from Internet. This speeds up the loading of the page, and reduces network congestion. However, there is a flip side as servers under-count the number of times a page is viewed. Sometimes, it fools users by showing old content. The user may get around caching by either Reloading/Refreshing the web-page or clearing browser's cache at regular intervals.

CIF

Cost, Insurance, and Freight. A pricing term under which the seller pays all expenses involved in the placing of merchandise on board a carrier and in addition prepays the freight and insures the goods to an agreed destination

Consignee

The person, firm, or representative to whom a seller or shipper sends merchandise and who, upon presentation of the necessary documents, is recognized as the owner of the merchandise for the purpose of the payment of customs duties. This term mostly refers to importer or buyer

Consignment

A term pertaining to merchandise shipped to a consignee abroad when an actual purchase has not been made, under an agreement by which the consignee is obligated to sell the goods for the account of the consignor, and to remit proceeds as goods are sold
